I finally made it to Dysynni Pod after what felt like the scenic route from hell – or at least from Tywyn high street. We'd piled into the car that grey Friday morning, me, the wife, and our two lads, aged eight and ten, buzzing with that pre-holiday energy that turns them into human pinballs. The layout's genius for a family like ours: open-plan living with a cracking little kitchenette stocked with all the basics – kettle on, tea brewing before we'd even unpacked. The lads immediately claimed the sofa bed area, flinging cushions everywhere in a whirlwind of "mine!" shouts. Light chaos ensued as we unpacked; one bag split open, spilling crisps across the oak floor, and the youngest knocked over a mug while "helping" with the groceries. Back inside, first impressions ramped up with the log burner. I fumbled stacking the wood (more boyish giggles at my efforts), but once lit, it crackled away, casting a golden glow. Sat there with mugs of tea, watching the mist roll in over the valley, I had one of those gentle moments – you know, reflecting on how we rush about city life, always chasing the next thing. Afternoon brought more pod magic: we cracked open a board game amid the clutter, rain pattering on the roof like a lullaby. Dinner was easy – pasta on the hob, using local eggs we'd grabbed in Tywyn.
