About Saundersfoot
I finally made it to Saundersfoot after what felt like the world's most chaotic drive down from Narberth, my little hatchback groaning under the weight of enough luggage for a month-long expedition. It was only a short hop – about five miles – but wouldn't you know it, I managed to take a wrong turn onto a narrow lane that dead-ended at a field full of very unimpressed sheep. There I was, reversing like a pro (or so I told myself), with a ewe staring me down as if I'd personally offended her flock. A classic me moment: overpacked, underprepared, and now late for check-in at The Heritage Park Serendipity. I laughed it off in the rearview mirror, wiping imaginary sweat from my brow, but secretly cursing my sat-nav's sudden attack of the vapours.

Pulling into the Heritage Park just as the late afternoon sun dipped towards the Pembrokeshire coast, I was knackered but buzzing. The park itself is a gem – a cluster of smart lodges tucked into wooded grounds, with that perfect Welsh blend of cosy and contemporary. Serendipity stood out immediately: a spacious two-bedroom lodge with a veranda that screamed "relax here with a cuppa". I parked up, grabbed my keys from the discreet key safe (no faffing about with reception queues, hurrah), and stepped inside. The chaos of the drive melted away the second I crossed the threshold. It was spotless, light flooding in through big windows, with plush sofas begging to be flopped on and a kitchen that looked like it could whip up a Sunday roast without breaking a sweat.

First impressions? Bloody brilliant. I dumped my bags and made a beeline for the veranda – oh my word, the view. Overlooking the park's serene pond, with ducks paddling about like they owned the place, and in the distance, the gentle roll of Saundersfoot's bay. You could just make out the beach curving away, golden sands meeting that crisp Celtic Sea. I cracked open a window, and the air hit me: salty, fresh, with a hint of pine from the surrounding woods. It was like the universe saying, "Forget the sheep fiasco, mate, you're on holiday now."

Wandering around, I couldn't stop grinning at the little touches. The bedrooms were a dream – mine had a king-sized bed piled high with duck-down pillows, and en-suite with a shower that promised to wash away all my driving sins. Downstairs, the open-plan living area felt proper homely, with a wood-burning stove (mental note: light that later for smugness points) and French doors spilling out to a private patio. Perfect for al fresco brekkie, I reckoned. I poked my head into the second bedroom, twin beds all shipshape for hypothetical mates or kids, though it was just me this trip.

Hunger kicked in, so I nipped out for a quick explore – Heritage Park's right on the edge of Saundersfoot village, an easy five-minute stroll to the high street. Popped into a local chippy for haddock and chips, the batter crispy as you like, and a pint of something local from the pub next door. Back at Serendipity, I ate on the veranda as the sun set, painting the sky in pinks and oranges over the water. Pure magic. That mishap on the lane? It made the arrival all the sweeter, turning what could have been a slick check-in into a story worth retelling.

Sat there, munching chips and watching the world go by, I had one of those gentle moments of self-reflection. Life's too short for perfect plans – sometimes the detours, sheep and all, lead you to spots like this. Serendipity lived up to its name: unexpected joy after a bit of a kerfuffle. If you're after a cracking base in Saundersfoot, this lodge is it – first impressions don't come much better. Can't wait for day two.
