About Saundersfoot
I finally made it to Saundersfoot after a bit of a faff on the M4 – nothing major, just me spilling half my coffee down my shirt at the services near Swansea, turning me into a walking latte advert. Laughing it off, I followed the satnav's cheerful tones down the winding lanes of Pembrokeshire, past hedgerows bursting with wildflowers, until the Deluxe Lodge With Parking popped into view. Tucked away in a peaceful spot just a short stroll from the village heart, it looked every bit the cosy haven I'd been craving for a three-day escape.

Pulling into the private parking spot was a doddle, no scrabbling for spaces like in some seaside madhouse. The lodge itself? Blimey, what a treat. Modern and snug, with that fresh wooden scent hitting you as you step through the door. I dumped my bags in the open-plan living area, where the kitchen gleamed with all the kit you'd need – posh coffee machine, massive fridge, even a dishwasher for the odd takeaway container. But honestly, who needs to cook when the whole vibe screams 'do bugger all'?

First impressions were all about sinking into that plush corner sofa, feet up on the coffee table, gazing out at the decking and garden. The sun was doing its thing, dappling through the trees, and I cracked open a book I'd been meaning to read for months – some daft crime thriller that had me chuckling at the plot holes. No rush, no itinerary. Just me, a cuppa, and the gentle hum of Saundersfoot village in the distance. The garden's a proper suntrap, with loungers begging you to flop down and watch the clouds scoot by. I spent that first afternoon there, dozing lightly, waking to the sound of birds having a right old chinwag overhead. Pure bliss.

Wandering out for a gander, it's barely a five-minute amble to the beach – that wide sweep of golden sand fringed by cliffs, with the sea lapping lazily like it couldn't be arsed either. I mooched along the prom, past families building sandcastles and dog walkers, grabbing a 99 from the ice cream van because why not? Back at the lodge, the ensuite decking became my personal chill-out zone. Beers from the local shop (shoutout to the friendly chap who recommended the craft IPA), feet dangling off the edge, watching the sunset paint the sky in pinks and oranges. No grand adventures, just the joy of pottering – nipping to the village for fish and chips wrapped in paper, eaten straight from the tray on the deck while the gulls wheeled overhead.

There's something gently hilarious about realising how knackered you are from modern life. I caught myself in the mirror that first evening, still with a faint coffee stain on my tee, grinning like an idiot. Here I was, a city lad turned lodge lounger, and it felt spot on. That night, I lit the BBQ (gas, thank goodness – no faffing with charcoal), grilled some bangers from the butcher down the road, and ate under the stars with a cheeky bottle of wine. The lodge's two comfy bedrooms called later, but not before a long soak in the shower, steam fogging the mirror as I reflected on how I'd forgotten what slowing down really means. No emails pinging, no deadlines – just the soft creak of the lodge settling, the distant waves, and a profound 'ahh' of contentment.

By the end of day one, I was hooked. This wasn't about ticking boxes; it was the sheer delight of doing sod all in the best possible way. Saundersfoot and the Deluxe Lodge had me sussed – sometimes, the perfect holiday is the one where you barely move.
