About Saundersfoot
Stepping inside for the first time felt like sinking into a favourite armchair. The open-plan living space was compact but ever so cosy, with a wood-burning stove (unlit, but promising evenings ahead), a squishy sofa piled with cushions, and a kitchenette that had everything you'd need without any faffing about. I dropped my bag, kicked off my trainers, and just stood there grinning like an idiot. The windows framed a glimpse of the garden beyond—neat lawns, flower borders buzzing with bees, and those classic Welsh hedgerows that make you feel properly rural without being miles from civilisation. First impressions? Pure bliss. No grand hotel lobby, no frantic check-in; just a key in the door and instant permission to do sod all. That first afternoon, I didn't venture far. Why would I? The joy was in the sloth. I brewed a proper cuppa—none of that teabag-in-a-mug nonsense, but a proper pot with milk on the side—and flopped onto the sofa with a dog-eared paperback I'd brought along. The light filtered through the trees outside, dappling the pages, and before I knew it, an hour had vanished. It's funny how, back home, time races like it's late for a train, but here it just... meandered. I poked my head out to the private patio area, a sun-trap with a couple of chairs and a table, perfect for watching the world (or in this case, a cheeky robin) go by. Light humour in the form of me nearly spilling my tea while trying to snap a photo—clumsy fingers and all that. As the sun dipped, I fancied a gentle wander, nothing strenuous. Saundersfoot's that ideal size: a five-minute amble down to the sandy beach, where the sea was doing its usual dramatic crash against the pebbles. I didn't even bother with the full coastal path; just enough to feel the salt air on my cheeks and pick up a flaky pasty from the village bakery—proper job, steaming hot with chunks of local beef. Back at the lodge, I devoured it on the patio, the garden alive with birdsong. No itinerary, no apps buzzing with notifications; just the simple thrill of eating al fresco while the shadows lengthened. That evening, as I lit a few candles (the lodge had them stocked, thoughtful touch), I had a proper moment of self-reflection. Staring out at the darkening garden, I realised how knackered I'd been carrying the weight of everyday hurry. Here, at Bay Tree Lodge 4, doing very little wasn't lazy—it was restorative. No pressure to hike cliffs or chase sunsets; just the quiet rhythm of waves in the distance, a good book, and the knowledge that tomorrow could be much the same. Three days stretched ahead like a lazy river, and my first taste had me hooked. If you're after a spot to properly slow down in Saundersfoot, this wee lodge is your ticket to uncomplicated joy. |
