About Saundersfoot
Stepping out of the car, the sea air hit us first—salty, fresh, with that faint tang of chips from somewhere nearby. The dogs went mental, tails wagging like windscreen wipers on full pelt, as we unloaded our chaos of bags, wellies, and enough snacks to siege a castle. The lodge itself is a beaut: wooden cladding, a private hot tub bubbling away on the deck like it was waiting for us personally, and those massive windows framing views straight out to the beach. Saundersfoot's right there, just a short stroll away, but honestly, who needs to rush? We were knackered from the drive, so first impressions were all about sinking into this little bubble of lodge life. Inside, it was spot on for us lot—open-plan living with a kitchen that screamed "cook your own fry-ups", a squishy sofa begging for Netflix marathons, and bedrooms that slept us all comfy without anyone kicking each other in the night. The spa bit? Oh mate, the hot tub was the star of the show. We fired it up straight away, kids splashing about while I cracked open a cold one, watching the steam rise as the sun set over the bay. The dogs paddled at the edge, one of them—cheeky spaniel—trying to nick a floating cork, which had us in stitches. Pure lodge chaos, but the good kind that makes you forget real life. First evening, we wandered down to the beach, all of 10 minutes on foot, toes in the sand, dodging rock pools like pros. Saundersfoot's beach is a cracker—miles of golden sand, gentle waves lapping in, families flying kites and building epic sandcastles. We grabbed fish and chips from a takeaway near the harbour, proper greasy perfection wrapped in paper, eaten on the pebbles as the tide whispered in. Back at the lodge, the hot tub called again; nothing beats that post-supper soak, stars popping out overhead, with the faint sound of waves and a playlist of old school tunes. The kids were buzzing, inventing games with the spa jets, while I just floated, letting the warmth melt away the week's stresses. That first night, lying in bed with the window cracked open to the sea breeze, I had a proper moment of reflection. Here I was, mid-40s, with two hyper kids and two daft dogs, in this brilliant little Welsh bolthole, and it hit me: life's too short not to chase these simple pleasures. No grand plans, no Instagram perfection—just salty air, laughter, and the odd bit of lodge pandemonium like the spaniel nicking a chip off a plate. It's the everyday magic that recharges you. Day two dawned misty, but by breakfast—piled high with toast and Marmite—it had burned off into another belter. We pottered along the coastal path, spotting seals bobbing in the bay, then back for hot tub lounging and a lazy BBQ on the deck. The lodge's vibe is all about that relaxed family flow: space for everyone, pet hairs be damned, and those first impressions? They've got me hooked. If you're after a no-fuss Welsh escape where the sea's your soundtrack and chaos is part of the fun, Apex Spa (Pet) in Saundersfoot is your spot. Can't wait to go back. |
