About The Lodge At Plumstone View.

Letterston is a charming village straddling the Haverfordwest to Fishguard road. Amenities—including two pubs, an award-winning fish and chip shop, petrol station, general store, newsagents, butcher and Post Office—are scattered along the main road and side streets, giving it a unique, rambling feel. Perfectly placed for exploring Pembrokeshire, it's close to Haverfordwest, Fishguard (with its Irish ferry), coastal paths, beaches, bird islands, castles, golf courses and theme parks. Ideal for year-round holidays.

  • St Davids Cathedral

A church has stood here since the 6th century, making it Britain’s oldest cathedral settlement. The Gatehouse hosts a history exhibition, and the adjacent Bell Tower has a royal ring of ten bells. Partly accessible with wheelchairs inside. Gift and souvenir shops.

About Pembrokeshire
I finally made it to The Lodge at Plumstone View after what felt like the scenic route from hell – or at least from Haverfordwest, which is just a hop down the road. Picture this: I'd packed the car with enough snacks to feed a rugby team, blasted some classic Radio 2, and set off from the train station buzzing with that holiday excitement. Pembrokeshire's already working its magic with those rolling green hills and glimpses of the sea, but then disaster strikes in the form of a rogue seagull. Yes, you read that right. The cheeky blighter dive-bombed my windscreen right as I was navigating a narrow lane near Withybush, splattering what I can only assume was yesterday's chip supper across the glass. I pulled over in a layby, heart pounding, frantically wiping it off with a pack of baby wipes while muttering expletives that would make my nan blush. Ten minutes later, smeared glass and all, I was back on track, but now running late and feeling like a proper numpty.

The sat nav – bless its unreliable soul – led me down a winding single-track road flanked by hedgerows bursting with wildflowers, past a few stone farm cottages that screamed 'proper Wales'. And there it was: The Lodge at Plumstone View, tucked away in a peaceful spot overlooking the sort of view that makes you go 'wow' without even trying. It's one of those dog-friendly lodges, perfect for my mutt Rufus, who was already sticking his head out the window, tail wagging like a windscreen wiper on full beam. I parked up on the gravel drive, gravel crunching under the tyres, and stepped out into air so fresh it almost knocked me sideways. No traffic hum, just the distant bleat of sheep and the faint crash of waves from the coast a couple of miles off.

First impressions? Blimey, it was love at first sight. The lodge itself is this cosy wooden haven, all warm cladding and a veranda that wraps around like a hug. I fumbled the key code on the smart lock – fingers still sticky from the seagull apocalypse – and pushed open the door to a world of rustic charm. Inside, it's spot on: open-plan living with a wood-burning stove begging for a fire (though it was a balmy evening, so that waited), squishy leather sofas that screamed 'put your feet up', and a kitchen kitted out with everything from a Nespresso machine to a proper Aga vibe cooker. I dumped the bags and made a beeline for the French doors leading to that veranda – the view! Plumstone View lives up to its name, with fields rolling down to the horizon, dotted with grazing ponies and, if you squint, the hazy outline of the Preseli Hills. The sun was dipping low, painting everything in that golden Pembrokeshire light that makes you forget the world.

Rufus, the traitor, immediately claimed the dog bed by the window, while I cracked open a cold one from the fridge (fully stocked welcome pack, cheers to that) and flopped onto a lounger. The chaos of the journey melted away – that seagull mishap now just a daft story to tell. I sat there, sipping and savouring the quiet, reflecting on how I never make time for this at home. Back in the daily grind, I'm always rushing, ticking boxes, forgetting to breathe. Here, in this little Pembrokeshire pocket, it hit me: sometimes the best holidays start with a splat and end with a sigh of contentment. The hot tub bubbled invitingly on the deck – note to self, test that later – and I could already picture morning walks along the nearby paths towards the coast path at St David's way, just a short stroll or drive off.

As the stars popped out – proper starry skies, none of that light pollution rubbish – I wandered back inside, lit a few candles (supplied, naturally), and rustled up some pasta from the welcome goodies. The lodge felt like it was made for unwinding: underfloor heating warming my socks, telly with Freeview for a bit of Strictly catch-up, and those massive windows framing the twilight. No neighbours in sight, just us, the view, and the gentle hoot of an owl. That messy arrival? Best thing that happened. It made this first evening feel earned, real. Can't wait for day two, but honestly, if the rest of the trip matches these first impressions, I'll be chuffed to bits. Pembrokeshire, you've got me hooked already.
