About Pembrokeshire
Pulling up to Hornbeam Lodge 2 just before lunchtime, though, all that chaos melted away like ice cream on a Welsh summer's day. Tucked into a peaceful spot on the edge of Narberth – think five minutes from the high street's brilliant little indie shops and pubs – it's one of those hot tub lodges that just screams "relax, you've earned this". The owners had left the keys in a handy lockbox, with clear directions scribbled on a note that made me chuckle: "Welcome! Milk in fridge, logs by the fire. No soggy crisps allowed!" I fumbled the code twice, hands still sticky from my car fiasco, but then the door swung open to this absolute gem. Stepping inside, I was hit with that perfect holiday hit of woodburner warmth and fresh linen scent. The open-plan living space is spot-on for a solo wanderer like me – plush sofa begging for a collapse, a telly bigger than my flat's, and a kitchen kitted out with everything from cafetière to that rarest of gems, a proper toaster that doesn't spit crumbs everywhere. I dumped my bags and beelined for the bifold doors leading out back, where the private hot tub sat steaming under a pergola, surrounded by a neat patio and flowerbeds buzzing with bees. Pembrokeshire's gentle breeze carried the faint salty whiff from the coast, even though Tenby Beach is just a cheeky 15-minute drive if you fancy it later. But right then? Blissful solitude. I couldn't resist firing up the hot tub straight away – controls dead simple, bubbles churning like a jacuzzi party. Slipping in with a cold craft beer from the fridge (local Narberth brewery stuff, naturally), I let the jets knead away the drive's tension. The garden's enclosed too, so no nosy neighbours peeking; just birdsong and the odd sheep bleating from a nearby field. From the tub, you glimpse the lodges around it, but it's private enough – feels like your own little haven amid Pembrokeshire's green patchwork. Wandering the lodge after, I clocked the two bedrooms upstairs: master with a king-size bed that looked comfier than my own, en-suite shower blasting hot as Hades, and a twin room perfect for mates or kids. Beams overhead give it that authentic Welsh cottage charm without the draughty nonsense. Downstairs loo spotless, and the underfloor heating? Chef's kiss on a chilly afternoon. As the sun dipped low, painting the sky in those dramatic Pembrokeshire pinks, I sat on the patio with a cuppa, reflecting on how daft it was getting so het-up over spilt tea. Here I was, in this cracking spot so close to Narberth's cosy cafes like The Old Point House for a pub lunch tomorrow, or a stroll to the town's market square. Hornbeam Lodge 2 isn't just a holiday let; it's the kind of place that resets your soul after life's little mishaps. Three days here? Already shaping up to be pure magic. |
