About Pembrokeshire
I finally made it to Cladebrine, that gorgeous little rental tucked away in Narberth, Pembrokeshire, after a journey that started promisingly but quickly turned into a comedy of errors. Picture this: I'd set off from Cardiff early doors, buzzing with excitement for my three-day Welsh escape, Spotify playlist blasting some classic Manic Street Preachers to get me in the Celtic mood. The A40 was a dream at first—rolling green hills, the odd sheep dodging the carriageway—but then, about 20 minutes from Narberth, disaster struck in the form of a rogue pasty.

Yes, you read that right. I'd grabbed a steak pasty from a services stop, thinking it'd be the perfect pitstop fuel. One bite in, and the gravy exploded like Mount Vesuvius all over my lap. Cue emergency pull-over on a narrow Pembrokeshire lane, me dabbing furiously at my trousers with soggy serviettes while a farmer in a battered Land Rover gave me the side-eye from his tractor. "Classic me," I muttered, laughing at my own daftness. Trousers half-ruined, dignity in tatters, I pressed on, arriving at Cladebrine's doorstep just as the afternoon sun dipped behind the hedgerows, feeling like I'd survived an episode of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

The key handover was seamless—local hosts with that warm Pembrokeshire welcome, handing over the keys with a cheery "Mind the step, bach!"—and as I pushed open the door, all the travel chaos melted away. Cladebrine is one of those spots that hits you right in the feels: a cosy stone cottage straight out of a postcard, nestled in a quiet corner of Narberth village. First impressions? Bloody brilliant. The living room greeted me with a wood-burning stove (already stocked with kindling, bless them), squashy sofas in muted greens and blues that screamed "put your feet up," and big sash windows framing views of the lush garden bursting with hydrangeas and wildflowers. I dumped my bags and just stood there, inhaling that fresh Welsh air wafting through—earthy, with a hint of sea salt even though the coast is a cheeky drive away.

Wandering through, I couldn't stop grinning. The kitchen was a dream for a solo traveller like me—slate worktops, a retro Aga that looked like it could whip up a proper Welsh rarebit, and all the gadgets you'd need without any faff. I cracked open a bottle of Brains from the local offie I'd spotted on the way in (pro tip: Narberth's got a cracking little Tesco Express), and rustled up a cuppa while taking it all in. Upstairs, the bedroom was pure snug heaven: a king-sized bed piled high with crisp white linens and fluffy pillows, plus an en-suite with a rainfall shower that promised to wash away any lingering pasty stains. The views from the window? Straight over rooftops to the gentle Pembrokeshire countryside, with buzzards wheeling lazily overhead.

That first evening, as I lounged on the private patio with a GandT, watching the sunset paint the sky in pinks and oranges, I had one of those gentle "what am I doing with my life?" moments. Here I was, miles from the daily grind, in this perfect bolthole that felt like a hug from an old mate. The arrival mishap? It only made the contrast sweeter—turning what could have been a knackered slog into pure magic. Narberth itself peeked invitingly close: the town's indie shops and cosy pubs like The Woodland just a stroll away, all fairy lights and friendly chatter. Cladebrine wasn't just a stay; it was an instant mood-lifter, the kind of place that makes you vow to return before you've even unpacked properly. If you're after first impressions that stick, this is your spot—pasty explosions optional.
