About North Wales
By the time we trundled into the quiet coastal spot just outside Aberystwyth, the sun was peeking through like it knew we needed cheering up. Spotting the "Lodge Hot Tub 3 Bed No Pets" sign swinging gently in the breeze, I felt that proper holiday buzz kick in. Tucked away in a serene little holiday park vibe, it looked like the perfect cosy retreat – wooden cladding glowing in the late afternoon light, surrounded by lush green hills rolling down to the sea. No pets allowed, which was a relief after my last trip with a mate's hyper labradoodle that treated every sofa like a trampoline. We parked up, grabbed our gear, and fumbled with the key safe, my hands still clammy from the drive. Pushing open the door, the first impression hit like a warm hug: that unmistakable scent of fresh linen and pine cleaner, screaming "proper clean get-away." The open-plan living space was a belter – plush corner sofa facing a telly big enough for match days, and a wood-burning stove begging for a cheeky fire later. Kitchen was kitted out brilliantly, all gleaming worktops, a massive American-style fridge-freezer stocked with our booze already chilling, and even a Nespresso machine for my caffeine emergencies. "Blimey, this is posh for a lodge," Dave grinned, raiding the welcome pack of local teabags and Welsh cakes that tasted like childhood holidays. But the real star? That private hot tub on the decking, steaming invitingly under a pergola with fairy lights twinkling already. Overlooking a sliver of Cardigan Bay, it promised epic sunsets and stargazing without a care. The three bedrooms were upstairs, each with fluffy duvets, en-suites that looked spa-worthy, and views that made you forget the pothole fiasco entirely. Ours had a super-king bed I basically face-planted into, declaring it mine for the weekend. Stepping out for a nose around the immediate grounds, it was all low-key bliss – a shared play area for kids down the path, neat lawns perfect for a post-dinner stretch, and that fresh sea air whipping in from the nearby beach. We cracked open beers on the deck, toes dangling near the hot tub, toasting our soggy arrival. "From muddy windscreen to this? Worth every splatter," I chuckled, feeling a rare moment of quiet reflection. Life's too short for perfect plans – sometimes the chaos leads you to spots like this, where the simple joy of a cracking lodge and mates makes everything click. First impressions? Smashing. Can't wait to sink deeper into this North Wales gem. |
