About North Wales
Stumbling out, keys in hand from the Snaptrip pickup, the chaos melted away like Snowdonia mist. There it was, this cracking VIP lodge nestled in a quiet wooded spot near Oswestry – not some draughty caravan, mind, but a proper posh wooden haven with that welcoming glow from the veranda lights. First impressions? Blimey, it was love at first sight. The exterior screamed luxury getaway: wraparound decking perfect for a cheeky GandT at dusk, hot tub bubbling away like it was begging for a dip, and those massive windows promising views of rolling Welsh hills without even stepping inside. I fumbled the key in the lock – hands still shaking from the sheep standoff – and pushed open the door to pure bliss. The open-plan living space hit me like a warm hug: plush leather sofas begging to be sunk into, a telly bigger than my flat's, and a wood-burning stove all set with kindling, just waiting for me to channel my inner Ray Mears. Kitchen was a dream too – shiny granite tops, a massive American-style fridge stocked with Welsh goodies (hello, local cheeses and bara brith), and every gadget you could want for knocking up a full Welsh breakfast. No faffing with dodgy electrics here; it was all sleek, modern, and screaming "relax, you daft sod." Up the wooden stairs (creak-free, thank God), the three bedrooms were crackers. Master had a king-sized bed you could get lost in, en-suite with a rainfall shower that made me forget the drive instantly. The other two were spot-on for mates or kids – comfy doubles and twins, all with fluffy bedding that smelled of fresh laundry. Outside, the private hot tub was the star – steaming under the stars, surrounded by that North Wales quiet you only get away from the tourist traps. I stripped off and hopped in straight away, the jets pounding away the road rage, with the faint call of an owl in the trees. Pure magic. That first evening, as I cracked open a bottle of Brains on the deck, watching the sun dip behind the nearby hills, I had a proper moment. Sat there, bubbles fizzing around me, I thought: "You nearly bottled this with your rubbish navigation, but look at you now." It's those little mishaps that make the good bits shine brighter, innit? The lodge wasn't just a place to crash; it felt like home from the off – cosy, indulgent, and bang in the heart of Wales without the crowds. First impressions don't get much better. Can't wait to explore more tomorrow, but honestly, who needs to leave when you've got this? |
