About Newport
The lodge itself is a cracking little haven, tucked away in a quiet spot just off the beaten track in Newport. I parked up right outside—no faffing with street spaces or anything—and hauled my bag through the gate to this cosy wooden gem. It's got that perfect "get away from it all" vibe: ensuite bathroom gleaming like new, a comfy double bed begging for a kip, and best of all, a decking area that overlooks a lush garden. I mean, who needs grand adventures when you've got birdsong and butterflies fluttering about? Dropped my stuff, cracked open a window, and just breathed it in. After the drive's minor drama, it felt like the universe saying, "Slow down, mate." Day one was all about settling in and embracing the joy of bugger all. I wandered out to the garden first thing—it's enclosed and private, with that soft Welsh grass (well, Isle of Wight, but you get me) perfect for padding about in socks. Brewed a cuppa from the well-stocked kitchenette, grabbed my battered copy of a Philip Pullman novel I'd been meaning to crack open, and flopped into one of the deck chairs. Hours vanished. No emails pinging, no deadlines nipping at my heels—just me, the book, and the odd rustle of leaves. Laughed at myself when a cheeky squirrel eyed me up for crumbs; I tossed it a biscuit bit and watched it scarper like I'd offered poison. By lunchtime, hunger nudged me into very gentle action. Newport's got those lovely local spots within easy reach—no car needed if you're feeling lazy. I ambled less than a mile to a cracking little café on Pyle Street, grabbed a bacon butty and a flat white, and sauntered back. Ate it on the decking, feet up, watching clouds do their slow-motion dance. Afternoon? More reading, interspersed with dozy stretches on the sofa. The lodge's lounge area is spot-on for this—plush cushions, telly if you fancy it (I didn't), and French doors spilling light onto the garden. I even had a cheeky nap, waking up to the mellow hum of distant traffic that felt a million miles away. Evening brought the first real glow of self-reflection. Sat there with a GandT from the offy down the road—Carisbrooke's got a decent one a quick five-minute walk away—staring at the sunset painting the garden pink. Thought about how I'm always rushing: work, mates, the endless scroll. Here, in this unpretentious lodge, doing sod all felt revolutionary. No grand plans, no Instagram poses—just pure, unfiltered unwind. The parking spot meant I could've nipped to Newport's market or the castle grounds nearby for a mooch, but nah. Tomorrow maybe, but tonight? Blissful inertia. Second morning mirrored the first, only lazier. Garden potter, book in hand, maybe a slow circuit of the decking pretending I was stretching. Popped to a bakery for fresh scones—clotted cream dreams—and that was my "exploration" done. The lodge's decking became my world: reading till eyes drooped, listening to the breeze, chuckling at my own inertia. Who knew joy could be this simple? By day three's end, I was plotting a return. Prestige Lodge isn't flashy; it's a hug from Newport, reminding you life's best when you park up, switch off, and let the garden work its magic. Proper tonic. |
