About Llandudno
I finally made it to Ty Ucha'r Ffordd after a bit of a faff on the A470, when my sat-nav decided to have a mid-journey existential crisis and sent me looping round a roundabout in Colwyn Bay three times. Nothing major, just enough to make me chuckle at my own daftness – typical me, overpacking the car with books and snacks like I was off to the Arctic, not a cosy cottage five minutes from Llandudno's gentle buzz.

Pulling up to this inviting little place in Eglwysbach felt like stumbling into a hug from an old mate. Ty Ucha'r Ffordd is one of those proper Welsh cottages, all stone walls and slate roof, tucked away down a quiet lane with views over rolling fields that scream "slow down, mate". I arrived on a drizzly Friday afternoon, the kind that makes you glad you've got a wood burner waiting inside. The owner, a lovely local chap, handed over the keys with a cheery "Croeso!" and a nod to the fresh milk in the fridge – proper thoughtful touch that.

Stepping through the door, I was hit by that instant "ahh" of cosiness. Low-beamed ceilings, a squishy sofa piled with cushions, and a kitchen that looked made for lazy brews rather than fancy cheffing. I dumped my bags, cracked open the French doors to the garden, and just... breathed. The garden's a belter – wildflower borders, a couple of weathered benches, and that Conwy Valley air that's crisp enough to wake you up without the shock of a cold shower. I spent my first hour there with a cuppa, feet up, watching sheep amble by like they owned the place. Bliss.

Saturday morning, no alarm, no rush. I pottered about in joggers, frying up bacon and eggs on the Aga (pro tip: it takes patience, or you'll end up with a smoky comedy moment like I did). Then it was straight back to the garden with a book – some dog-eared thriller I'd been meaning to crack for months. The sun peeked out, turning everything golden, and I swear time stretched like toffee. No grand plans, just me, the birdsong, and the occasional rustle of wind in the apple trees. It's funny how, back home, my diary's rammed, but here? Doing bugger all felt like the height of luxury.

A gentle wander down the lane led me to Eglwysbach's heart – the village hall and a smattering of stone cottages, with the Conwy River murmuring nearby. Popped into the local farm shop for cheese and bara brith, chatting with the chap behind the counter about the weather (as you do). Back at the cottage, I lit the fire early – even on a mild day, it adds that glow – and sprawled out reading till dusk. Dinner was simple: cheese on toast, elevated by the view from the window of hares darting in the fields.

By Sunday, I'd hit peak sloth. Lounged in the garden swing seat with coffee, letting my mind wander. Sat there reflecting on how knackered I've been lately, chasing deadlines like a headless chicken. This place? It's a reset button. No signals nagging, just the joy of bugger all. A slow stroll along the nearby paths, picking blackberries (and getting thorns in my thumb for my troubles – light humour courtesy of nature), then back for more reading by the window. As I packed up that evening, heart full and shoulders loose, I knew I'd be back. Ty Ucha'r Ffordd isn't about doing; it's about being. Pure magic for the soul.
