About Llandudno
I finally made it to Beech Cottages in Llandudno after a bit of a faff on the A55. Picture this: I'd packed the car with enough books, tea bags, and snacks to last a siege, only to realise halfway through Conwy that I'd left my reading glasses behind. Typical me—rushing off like a headless chicken, forgetting the one thing that makes a lazy holiday possible. No matter, I thought, as the sat nav cheerfully guided me off the main road towards Llanrwst, just a short hop from Llandudno's buzz. The lanes narrowed into that proper Welsh countryside, all rolling hills and sheep eyeing me suspiciously from the verges. By the time I pulled up to Beech Cottages, I was knackered but grinning like an idiot.

First impressions? Blimey, it was love at first sight. Tucked away in a peaceful spot on the edge of things, these cosy lodges feel like they've been plonked there just for folk like me who fancy doing sod all for a few days. Mine was a snug two-bed number, all warm wood and soft lighting, with a wood-burning stove begging to be lit (though the sun was still shining, so I held off). I dumped my bags and just stood there in the open-plan living area, breathing it all in. The kitchen was kitted out with everything you'd need for lazy self-catering—proper mugs for a brew, a fridge humming away, and even a slow cooker for chucking in a stew later without breaking a sweat.

Step outside, and the private patio overlooked a cracking garden, wildflowers nodding in the breeze and a couple of bird feeders dangling like invitations to sit and stare. I plonked myself in one of the cushy chairs with a cuppa, watching robins dart about. No itinerary, no rush—just the joy of bugger all. That's the magic of a place like this, innit? Llandudno's famous pier and promenade are only a quick drive away, but why bother when you've got this little haven? I wandered the garden paths for all of five minutes, picking a few blackberries that were just begging to be scoffed, then retreated to the lounge with my phone off and a dog-eared paperback.

The first afternoon melted into a proper do-nothing session. I cracked open that book—a light thriller I'd been saving—and lost hours curled up on the sofa, feet up, with the window cracked to let in the scent of damp grass. Every now and then, I'd amble out for fresh air, maybe spot a buzzard circling overhead or hear the distant bleat of sheep. Light humour in the air too: I tried brewing a pot of tea strong enough to strip paint, only to spill half on the worktop while faffing with the cosy. Laughed at myself, mopped it up, and poured a weaker one. Perfect.

Evening rolled in soft and slow. I nipped to the nearby Spar—literally minutes away—for basics: bread, cheese, a bottle of local ale. Back at the cottage, I grazed leisurely, flicking on the telly for some rubbish quiz show, then stared into the flames I'd finally got going in the stove. The crackle was hypnotic, turning my mind to a quiet reflection: when was the last time I'd properly slowed down? Work's always nagging, life's a whirl of to-dos, but here, in this unassuming lodge, I felt the weight lift. No grand adventures, just the simple bliss of being. Three days stretched ahead like a promise of more of the same—gentle strolls around Llandudno's quieter lanes if I fancied, or more garden lounging. Beech Cottages nailed it: the ultimate spot for recharging by doing precisely nowt. Can't wait to go back.
