About Gower Peninsula
Pulling up to the site near Castle, just off the winding roads of the peninsula, the first thing that hit me was the sheer peace of it all. Tucked away in a spot that’s pure Gower – rolling fields, the distant crash of waves from Rhossili Bay not five miles off, and air so fresh it practically slapped you with its cleanness. Tri Pod 6 isn’t your bog-standard tent; it’s this quirky, pod-like lodge, all cosy and compact, with a cheeky hot tub bubbling away like it knew we’d need it after the sheep saga. We unloaded the car in a flurry of wellies, picnic blankets, and the youngest’s favourite stuffed unicorn, which promptly got lost under the seats. Lodge life chaos from the off! Stepping inside was like being hugged by a really organised mate. Compact kitchenette gleaming with everything you’d need for a fry-up – kettle on, tea bags at the ready (proper British essentials). The beds were proper comfy, piled high with duvets that screamed “lazy mornings ahead.” We dumped our bags and cracked open a round of brews on the decking, taking in the view of the garden lodge’s little patch of paradise. Rabbits hopping about like they owned the place, and birds doing that twilight chirping thing. The kids were straight out, exploring the grassy bit around the pod, while I plonked myself in a chair, feet up, feeling the tension from work melt away faster than ice cream on a Welsh summer’s day. First impressions? Blimey, it was spot on for a relaxed family break. No faffing with fancy restaurants or packed itineraries – just us, the pod, and the simple pleasures of Gower. We wandered down to a nearby coastal path walk, the kind that’s classic around here, with clifftop views over sandy coves like those at Llangennith, all within easy reach but close enough not to feel like a trek. The littl’uns chased waves on a pebbly beach spot, their laughter mixing with the sea’s rumble, while we parents pretended we weren’t knackered from the drive. Back at the pod, chaos reigned supreme: attempting a barbecue that nearly set my eyebrows alight (note to self: check wind direction next time), followed by s’mores in the fading light. The hot tub saved the evening – bubbles, stars popping out overhead, and the kids splashing like it was their personal jacuzzi kingdom. That first evening, as we all piled into the pod, fairy lights twinkling outside, I had a quiet moment of self-reflection. Life’s mad rush back home – deadlines, school runs, the lot – it all felt miles away. Here, in this little Tri Pod haven, it was just about being together, mud on our shoes and sand in our hair. No grand adventures needed; the joy was in the small stuff, like the way the pod’s wood-burner crackled to life, warming us through as stories flew thick and fast. Gower’s magic seeped in without trying, from the salty breeze to the pod’s perfect perch for watching the sunset paint the fields gold. By bedtime, with the family knackered and happy, I knew we’d nailed it. Tri Pod 6 wasn’t just a stay; it was a reset button, all wrapped in that unpretentious Welsh charm. If you’re after a chilled family escape where the biggest drama is a rogue sheep or a singed sausage, this is your spot. Can’t wait to go back – minus the sat-nav faff, hopefully. |
