About Conwy
I finally made it to Conwy after a bit of a faff on the A55 – nothing major, just me spilling half my Costa latte down my shirt five minutes from the turning, turning me into a walking advert for caffeinated chaos. Laughing it off, I followed the satnav's cheerful drone down the narrow lanes towards 2 Bed Lodge In Conwy, my home for the next three days. Nestled in the shadow of those mighty medieval walls that hug the town like an ancient embrace, this little place promised the kind of escape where doing bugger all feels like the height of luxury.

Pulling up outside just as the afternoon sun dipped low, I was smitten straight away. The lodge is one of those proper Welsh cottages – stone-built, with a pitched roof and flower baskets tumbling over the front door like they've got nowhere better to be. It's compact but cosy, the sort of spot that wraps you up like a favourite jumper. I let myself in with the key safe code, dumped my bag in the hallway, and there it was: the living room, all squashy sofas, a wood-burning stove (unlit, but begging for a lazy evening crackle), and big windows framing a private garden that backed onto open fields. No traffic hum, no neighbourly chit-chat – just birdsong and the distant murmur of the Conwy River.

First impressions? Blissful inaction. I kicked off my trainers, brewed a cuppa from the well-stocked kitchen (milk in the fridge, teabags everywhere – thoughtful touches), and flopped onto the sofa with a dog-eared copy of a Philip Pullman novel I'd been meaning to crack open for months. The light filtered through in that soft Welsh way, golden and forgiving, and for the first time in ages, I wasn't itching to check my phone or plan the next move. This was it: the joy of doing very little. Who needs an itinerary when you've got a garden begging for a deckchair?

Stepping out back, I discovered the real star – that enclosed garden, lush with lavender and herbs, a couple of weathered benches, and a barbecue area shaded by an old apple tree. I spent the first hour just wandering it slowly, plucking a few ripe tomatoes from a pot (bonus!), and settling into a chair with my book. The walls of Conwy Castle loomed just visible over the hedge, a reminder that history's right there if you fancy it, but why rush? From here, it felt like my private kingdom, perfect for slowing right down.

Come evening, hunger nudged me out for a gentle potter into town – it's only a ten-minute amble through the quiet streets to the high street. Conwy's got that timeless Welsh charm: wonky timbered shops, the tiniest house in Britain squeezed by the quay (I gave it a nod but skipped the queue), and the river sparkling under the castle's shadow. I grabbed fish and chips from a no-frills takeaway, the batter crisp as a fresh £20 note, and wandered back as the sun set pink over the estuary. Back at the lodge, I ate on the garden bench, the air cooling just enough for a light jumper, listening to nothing but the rustle of leaves.

That first night, tucked into the master bedroom upstairs – beams overhead, a super-comfy king-size bed with the fluffiest duvet – I lay there reflecting gently on how knackered I'd been feeling lately. Work's been a treadmill, life's been go-go-go, but here, in this unpretentious lodge, I felt the tension uncoil like a spring finally released. No grand adventures needed; just the simple thrill of a slow breath, a good read, and the knowledge that tomorrow could be more of the same. By bedtime, with the town's lights twinkling faintly through the window, I was already plotting another day of pure, unadulterated loafing. Conwy, you've got me hooked on doing sweet FA.
