About Plas Marchog Lodge.

Pentraeth is a charming village on the River Nodwydd, north-east Anglesey coast. Featuring a 12th-century church, it lies between Llanddona beach and Red Wharf Bay—Traeth Coch—with 4.5 miles of sandy shore, safe shallow bathing, family fun, fishing, and scenic walks. Renowned for sunsets and abundant birdlife: shelduck, grey plover, purple sandpipers, curlew, oystercatchers, dunlin. Just 6 miles from medieval Beaumaris with its 13th-century moated castle, shops, pubs, eateries, museums, golf, and boat trips. Six minutes from Britannia Bridge to the mainland.

About Anglesey
I finally made it to Plas Marchog Lodge after a bit of a faff on the A55. Picture this: I'm trundling along from the mainland, windows down, humming along to some rubbish radio station, when—bam—a rogue seagull decides to audition for a windscreen splatter. Nothing dramatic, just a feathery whoosh and a mild panic as I pull over near Pentraeth to give the car a quick once-over. Turns out it was more of a glancing blow, but it had me chuckling at my own jumpiness. Proper Welsh welcome, that.

Pulling up to the lodge that afternoon felt like stumbling into a hug from an old mate. Tucked away in a peaceful spot just outside Pentraeth, it's this gorgeous detached wooden lodge with a pitched roof and those big windows that scream "come and unwind." I parked on the gravel drive, grabbed my weekend bag (overpacked as usual with three books I probably wouldn't crack), and stepped inside. The door creaked open to reveal a cosy open-plan living room with a wood-burning stove begging for a lazy evening fire, even if it was still summery out. Plump sofas, a telly tucked away in the corner, and a kitchen that looked made for brewing endless cups of tea. I dumped my stuff and immediately flopped onto the sofa, exhaling like I'd run a marathon.

First impressions? Blissful isolation without feeling cut off. The garden's the star—fully enclosed and private, with a lawn rolling out to a wooden decked patio complete with outdoor furniture and a charcoal BBQ. I cracked open a beer from the offie in Pentraeth (a five-minute wander down the lane) and just sat there, feet up, watching nothing happen. Bees buzzing in the flowers, distant sheep bleating—pure Anglesey magic. No rush, no plans. That's the joy of it, innit? After months of graft back home, arriving here was like hitting the pause button on life.

That first evening, I mooched about the garden paths, picking up a bit of litter from my own absent-minded crisp packet drop (eco-warrior I am not), then settled in with one of those books—a dog-eared thriller I'd been meaning to read. The sun dipped low, painting everything golden, and I fired up the BBQ for a solitary steak, charred just right with some local baps from the village shop. No dining out, no Instagram poses—just me, the sizzle, and the quiet. Later, as night fell, I lit the stove (cheat's way with kindling from the basket) and curled up with a blanket, flicking through channels till I nodded off. Dead to the world by 10pm.

Day two dawned misty, classic Welsh weather, but the lodge wrapped around me like a cosy duvet. Breakfast was lazy—porridge on the go, eaten standing at the kitchen island while staring out at the dew-kissed garden. No agenda beyond a gentle potter. I ambled down to Pentraeth's Red Wharf Bay beach, maybe a couple of miles off, for a slow walk along the sand. Waves lapping, dogs chasing sticks, families building wonky castles. Picked up some cockles from a beachside stall—salty, fresh perfection eaten straight from the tub while perched on a rock. Back at the lodge by lunch, I sprawled in the garden hammock (did I mention there's one? Heaven), dozing through the afternoon with birdsong as my alarm clock.

It's funny, isn't it? We pack our holidays with adventures, ticking boxes like mad tourists. But here, doing sod all felt revolutionary. That gentle self-reflection hit me mid-afternoon, swinging in that hammock: when did I last just *be*? No emails pinging, no deadlines looming. Plas Marchog Lodge stripped it all back to basics—cosy nooks, fresh air, and the sheer delight of slowing right down. By evening, another BBQ (salmon this time, because why not), more reading by lamplight, and a starry sky peeking through the skylight. Pure, unadulterated nothing.

On my last morning, I lingered over coffee on the patio, savouring the garden's hush before the drive home. Three days of minimal effort, maximum recharge. If you're after Anglesey's charm without the hustle, this is your spot. Book it, bin the itinerary, and let the lodge work its lazy magic. I know I'll be back.
