About Loch Lomond
Pulling up to the place was pure magic – a proper luxury lodge, all cosy timber with a private hot tub bubbling away on the deck like it was waiting just for us. First impressions? Spot on. The owners had left fresh milk, bread, and a cheeky bottle of local whisky in the fridge, which felt like a proper Scottish welcome. The dogs went mental, sniffing every corner of the three bedrooms, each one plush with king-size beds and those fluffy towels you never get at home. I dumped my bags and headed straight out for a wander, because what's a Loch Lomond holiday without getting your boots muddy? Day one kicked off with blue skies – rare as hen's teeth around here – so I laced up for a hike along the nearby woodland paths towards the loch shore. It's only a couple of miles from the lodge, dead easy, winding through ancient oaks dripping with moss. The air was crisp, that proper fresh Scottish stuff that makes your lungs sing, and the dogs bounded ahead like puppies again. We spotted otters playing in the shallows – or at least I think they were otters; could have been big rats, but let's not ruin the romance. I paused for a brew on a fallen log, watching mist lift off the water. Bliss. Made me reflect a bit, you know? Sat there with my flask, thinking how often I let work gobble up these simple joys. Needed this reminder to slow down. But oh, the British weather – it's got a wicked sense of humour. By afternoon, the heavens opened, turning our gentle stroll into a full-on squelch-fest. Plans for a longer loop up to the wee hills behind the lodge? Scrubbed. Instead, we dashed back, drenched to the bone, laughing at the dogs who looked like drowned labradoodles. Cosied up inside, I fired up the hot tub under a massive umbrella – genius feature, that. Sat bubbling away as rain hammered the roof, Loch Fyne a grey blur in the distance. Proper hygge, Scottish style. Next morning, same story: optimistic start with a misty hike along the coastal path, maybe a mile from the door, dodging puddles and breathing in that peaty scent. The weather teased us – sun one minute, hail the next – forcing impromptu detours into sheltered glades where bluebells nodded in the wind. Light-hearted chaos, really; I slipped arse-over-tit on a slick rock, emerging covered in mud but in stitches. The lodge was the perfect base, though – private, pet-proof, with a telly for rainy afternoons and that hot tub saving the day every time the clouds won. By the end of those three days, I was hooked. Those hikes, weather-whipped or not, etched Loch Lomond into my soul – raw, unpredictable, utterly brilliant. If you're after a wee escape with walks on tap and a hot tub hero, this lodge is your spot. Dogs approved, tea stains forgotten. Can't wait to go back. |
