About Dumfries And Galloway
By the time we trundled up the winding lane to Hot Tub Lodge 3, we were knackered, sticky, and swearing we'd never travel with a Labrador again (lies, of course). The lodge peeked out from a cluster of cosy wooden cabins, nestled in that lush, rolling greenery Dumfries and Galloway does so well – think gentle hills dotted with sheep, the air thick with that salty Solway tang. It's just a hop from Kirkcudbright's harbour, close enough to hear gulls squawking over the tidal flats. We parked on the gravel patch, Monty leaping out like he'd never caused chaos, and there it was: our little timber retreat, all warm cedar glow and those massive windows framing the wild garden. First impressions? Bloody brilliant. The owners had left the key in a wee lockbox (bless 'em for trusting daft arrivals like us), and stepping inside was like a hug from a favourite auntie. Compact but dead clever – open-plan living with a squishy sofa begging for a collapse, a kitchenette stocked with tea, coffee, and even some local shortbread (score!). The wood-burning stove was laid ready, fairy lights twinkling above, and that massive telly for rainy nights (fingers crossed). Monty immediately claimed the fluffy rug by the door, tail thumping approval. Up the ladder-loft stairs (tight squeeze, mind – watch your head, shorties like me are fine), the bedroom was a proper treat: king-sized bed piled with crisp white duvets, views straight out to the trees, and en-suite with a rainfall shower that promised to wash away our sandwich saga. But the star? That private hot tub on the decking, bubbling away under a pergola strung with more lights, steam rising like a misty Highland spa. We cracked open a couple of tins (BYOB, naturally), and Sarah and I sank in, Monty paddling at the edge like a drowned rat. The sun dipped low over the Galloway Forest edges, painting everything gold – no traffic hum, just birdsong and the faint lap of the nearby burn. Laughter bubbled up about our ham apocalypse; honestly, it was the perfect icebreaker to this slice of paradise. Sitting there, toes pruning, I had a proper moment of self-reflection. Life back home's a whirl of deadlines and dog walks in the drizzle, but here, in this unpretentious lodge, everything slowed. That silly mishap? It reminded me we're not perfect, but that's what makes these getaways magic – the chaos leading to calm. First impressions sealed it: Hot Tub Lodge 3 is our new happy place. If you're after pet-friendly bliss five minutes from Kirkcudbright's charming high street and harbour, book it. Just secure your sarnies. |
