I finally made it to Girvan after a bit of a faff on the A77 – nothing major, just me taking a wrong turn at Turnberry and ending up looping past some sleepy sheep fields for twenty minutes. Light humour there; I felt like a caveman rediscovering fire. The lads discovered the board games stash – Monopoly Deal and a battered Jenga – and chaos ensued within minutes. Tower toppled spectacularly, scattering blocks everywhere, which had us all in stitches. "Dad, you're rubbish!" piped up little Jack, and fair play, he wasn't wrong.
