About Scarborough
I finally made it to Scarborough after a faffing drive up from Leeds, the SatNav deciding to play silly buggers by rerouting me through every bloody traffic light in Whitby. Nothing major – just a spilled cuppa staining my passenger seat and a mild swear-fest – but by the time I pulled up to Glamping Pod 1 Comfort on the edge of town, I was ready to embrace the art of bugger all.

Tucked away in a peaceful spot just a short stroll from Scarborough's South Cliff, this pod is the epitome of cosy escapism. From the gravel drive, it looks like a snug wooden hobbit hole, all curved roof and glowing windows promising warmth against the North Sea chill. I parked up, grabbed my weekend bag (packed light, naturally – books, snacks, and zero itinerary), and the host popped out with a cheery wave and a mug of tea. Proper Yorkshire welcome, that.

Stepping inside was like sinking into a hug. The open-plan space is compact but clever: double bed piled high with fluffy duvets, a wee kitchenette with kettle on the boil, and a bathroom that's surprisingly swish for a pod – hot shower steaming up the mirror in seconds. No telly, mind, which suited me down to the ground. The French doors at the back open straight onto a private decked area with a couple of loungers and that lush garden beyond. Overgrown in the best way, with buzzing bees and birdsong, it's the sort of spot that screams "put your feet up, love."

First impressions? Pure bliss for a lazy sod like me. I dumped my stuff, brewed a proper cuppa (Yorkshire tea, natch), and flopped onto the sofa with my battered copy of a Philippa Gregory novel. Outside, the sun was doing its best impression of summer, dappling through the leaves. No rush to unpack or plan – just me, the book, and the gentle hum of Scarborough in the distance. You could hear the faint crash of waves from the beach, maybe a donkey braying on the sands. It was like the world had hit pause.

That first afternoon, I pottered about the garden like a contented gnome. There's a fire pit (unused by me, too knackered to spark it up), herbs to sniff, and a hammock swaying invitingly. I strung up there with a biscuit, watching clouds drift over the cliffs. Light humour in the realisation that my "holiday workout" was stretching for another Hobnob. Scarborough's magic is right there – no need to hike miles. A gentle wander down to the Olive Branch or a chippy on the Esplanade, five minutes away, and back with paper-wrapped heaven to devour on the deck.

Evening rolled in soft and golden. I lit a few candles (provided, thoughtful touch), cracked open a bottle of red, and watched the sky turn pink over the bay. Dinner was simple – local bread, cheese from that deli near the harbour, nothing fancier. Sat there reflecting on how knackered I've been lately, chasing deadlines and life. This pod? It's a reminder that joy's in the slowdown. No grand adventures, just breathing deep, letting the sea air fill your lungs, and savouring the quiet.

By bedtime, cocooned under the quilt with rain pattering the roof, I was smitten. Glamping Pod 1 Comfort isn't about luxury overload; it's about permission to do sod all, brilliantly. First day in, and I'd already clocked off from the world. Can't wait for the next two days of the same.
