About Scarborough
I finally made it to Scarborough after a bit of a faff on the journey down from Leeds. I'd set off bright and early, buzzing about my three-day jaunt to Daisy Lodge, that cosy little cottage I'd booked on a whim. But typical me, I managed to cock it up right from the off. About halfway there, somewhere near the A64, my sat-nav decided to throw a wobbly – froze solid, then started directing me towards some random farm track off the beaten path. Cue 20 minutes of me swearing at the dashboard, reversing down a muddy lane with hedges scraping the sides of my hire car, feeling like a right plonker. A farmer in wellies gave me a bemused wave as I U-turned, and I couldn't help but chuckle at myself – who packs for a seaside getaway without checking the battery on their phone's maps app? Lesson learned, or at least noted for next time.

By the time I rolled into Scarborough proper, the sun was peeking through the North Sea clouds, and the town was already humming with that classic coastal vibe. The streets were alive with holidaymakers lugging buckets and spades, the air thick with chips and doughnuts from the stalls along the front. I followed the signs towards the quieter end near Peasholm Park – Daisy Lodge is tucked away in a peaceful spot, just a short stroll from the beach but far enough to dodge the main crush. Parking was a doddle, right outside, and as I hauled my bags up the path, heart still racing from the nav fiasco, I felt that first proper grin spreading across my face.

Unlocking the door was like stepping into a hug from an old mate. The place is proper quaint – think low-beamed ceilings, a snug sitting room with a wood burner (not lit yet, but tempting), and a kitchen that's kitted out just right for knocking up a brew or a full English. I dumped my stuff and beelined for the garden – oh, what a belter! Overlooking a lush green towards the park, with those classic white garden chairs begging for a sit-down. I plonked myself in one, mug of tea in hand, and just breathed it all in. The mishap on the road melted away; here I was, in this little slice of Scarborough heaven, birds twittering and the distant whoosh of waves.

First impressions? Bloody brilliant. Wandered out for a nose around straight away – five minutes and I'm at Peasholm Lake, where families were out on pedal boats, kids shrieking with glee. It's that perfect mix of lively and laid-back, the sort of place that makes you forget the daily grind. Popped into a nearby café for a crab sandwich – fresh as you like, straight from the bay – and watched the world go by. Back at the lodge by late afternoon, I cracked open a window, letting the sea breeze waft through, and sorted myself out on the patio with a book. The chaos of arrival had me reflecting a tad – life's full of those daft detours, innit? But they make the good bits shine brighter. Sat there as the sun dipped, painting the sky all pink and orange over the park, I thought, yeah, this is exactly what I needed. Daisy Lodge isn't just a stay; it's that warm welcome you didn't know you were craving. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings, but right now, this first day's been spot on.
