About Shropshire
Pulling into the drive of Lodge 3 Bed VIP felt like uncovering a secret bolthole. Tucked in a peaceful rural spot just outside Oswestry, it’s the sort of place that whispers “VIP” without shouting it – a smart three-bed lodge with a hot tub bubbling away on the deck, surrounded by rolling hills that stretch out like a green quilt. First impressions? Bloody brilliant. The owners had left fresh milk, biscuits, and a cheeky bottle of local cider in the fridge – proper thoughtful touch after our navigational faff. We dumped the bags and cracked open a window; the air hit you with that crisp, earthy Shropshire scent, mingled with woodsmoke from a nearby farm. No traffic hum, no crowds – just birdsong and the faint low of cattle. It was love at first sight, honestly. The place is kitted out cosily, with plush sofas begging a collapse and a telly bigger than my lounge at home. But it was the view from the patio that sealed it: golden light slanting over hedgerows, making you feel miles from anywhere, even though Oswestry’s just a quick hop. That first evening, we didn’t bother with grand plans. Instead, we embraced the joy of getting properly lost – or at least wandering off the beaten track. A five-minute stagger from the lodge led us down a footpath we spotted by accident, twisting through ancient oaks draped in moss. It spat us out at a wee hidden pond, not on any tourist map, where mallards quacked lazily and dragonflies skimmed the surface like tiny helicopters. We sat on a fallen log, feet dangling, supping tea from a thermos. “This is it,” I thought, that gentle pang of reflection hitting me – how often do we charge through life missing these quiet pockets? Back at the lodge, we fired up the hot tub as the sun dipped, steam rising like a misty veil, and laughed about my earlier driving blunder. “You’ve got a talent for finding the scenic route,” my mate quipped, bubbles popping around us. Next morning, first impressions evolved into full-on obsession with the locale’s off-piste charms. No Ironbridge or Ludlow for us – too obvious. We veered off down unmarked lanes right from the doorstep, ending up at a forgotten picnic spot by the River Tanat, barely two miles away. Crystal water gurgling over pebbles, wildflowers nodding in the breeze – pure magic we’d have missed with a guidebook. Lunch was pasties from a Oswestry bakery we lucked into, eaten on a blanket while a heron stalked the shallows. Afternoon brought another serendipitous find: a secluded viewpoint over the Oswestry uplands, reached via a cow-path we shouldn’t have taken but did anyway. Panoramic views of heather-clad hills, with not a soul in sight. Back at the lodge by dusk, we grilled sausages on the patio barbie, the hot tub calling for round two. That night, under a sky thick with stars – no light pollution here – I reflected again, chuckling inwardly at how a simple wrong turn had unlocked this paradise. Shropshire’s like that: full of accidental treasures if you let yourself get lost. By day three’s arrival-feel lingering (check-out was a wrench), Lodge 3 Bed VIP had us hooked on its effortless charm and the hidden gems it unveiled. If you fancy ditching the crowds for Shropshire’s secret side, this is your spot – mishaps and all. |
