About Wiltshire
By the time I escaped the ovine blockade, the sat-nav was having a right paddy, rerouting me through twisty B-roads lined with those chocolate-box thatched cottages and rolling chalk downs. The sun was dipping low, painting everything in that golden Wiltshire glow, and I was starving. But then, the real mishap: as I turned off the lane towards the lodge, my tyres crunched over a sneaky pothole hidden in the verges – bang! A puncture. Classic me, not checking the spare or anything. There I was, stranded on a quiet farm track, phone signal dodgy as owt, swearing under my breath while wrestling with the jack. A passing local in a Land Rover took pity – bless him, proper Wiltshire gent with a beard like a wizard – and sorted it in ten minutes flat with his compressor. "Happens to the best of us, lad," he grinned. I felt a right plonker, but it was one of those moments that makes you reflect: life's little cock-ups are what turn a trip into a proper story, aren't they? Instead of raging, I just laughed it off and carried on, more determined than ever to soak up this peaceful bolthole. Pulling up to the lodge just as dusk settled, all that arrival kerfuffle melted away like butter on a hot scone. Tucked in a serene spot within a few miles of Salisbury's spire piercing the sky, this exclusive pad is pure magic – a sleek two-bed hot tub lodge that screams luxury without the pretension. The exterior hits you first: smart timber cladding glowing under fairy lights, surrounded by manicured lawns and wildflower borders buzzing with late bees. I parked up, grabbed my bags, and the host – a lovely chap called Mike – was there to greet me with a proper welcome hamper of local cheeses, a bottle of crisp Wiltshire white, and fresh scones. "Make yourself at home," he said, handing over the keys with a wink. Stepping inside, blimey, it was love at first sight. The open-plan living space is all cosy chic – plush sofas in soft greys, a wood-burner already set with kindling (I lit it pronto for that toasty vibe), and a kitchen gleaming with every gadget you could wish for. Massive windows frame views of the garden rolling out to woodland, and there, bubbling away on the private deck, was the hot tub – steaming invitingly under the stars. I dumped my bags, cracked open that wine, and sank into the tub with a sigh that could've registered on the Richter scale. The jets pounded away the drive's stresses, and I gazed up at the Milky Way, clearer than I've seen in years. No light pollution here, just pure, unfiltered Wiltshire night sky. First impressions? This place is a dream for unwinding. The bedrooms are cracking too – mine had a king-sized bed piled high with goose-down pillows, crisp linen that smelled of lavender fields, and an en-suite shower with rainfall head that made me feel like royalty. The second room's set up perfect for mates or kids, all neutral tones and fluffy towels. It's hot tub heaven, but it's the little touches that seal it: underfloor heating keeping toes warm, a telly bigger than my flat's, and board games stacked by the fire for rainy evenings (though the forecast promised sun). That sheep delay and puncture? Worth every second for this serene arrival. As I lounged there, bubbles fizzing, I thought, yeah, this three-day jaunt is already legendary. Wiltshire's got me hooked – can't wait to explore the close-by trails and that ancient cathedral tomorrow, but right now, this lodge is my perfect pitstop. |
