About Somerset
Pulling up to Rabbit's Warren Lodge, I was gobsmacked. Tucked away in a peaceful spot near Westonzoyland—practically in the shadow of the Glastonbury Tor on a clear day—this place is pure magic. It's one of those cosy shepherd's huts turned holiday gem, all rustic charm with a modern twist. The owner, a cheery local chap named Mike, met me at the gate with a wave and a mug of tea, apologising for the "occasional puddle" from recent rains. Puddle? Try a full-on Somerset splash zone after that cow field fiasco! We had a right chuckle about my navigational disaster as he showed me round. Stepping inside was like tumbling into a hug from an old friend. The open-plan space is tiny but perfectly formed—wood-burner crackling away (logs already stacked, bless 'em), a squishy sofa begging for a collapse, and a kitchenette kitted out with everything from cafetière to fairy lights. I dumped my bags and flopped onto the bed at the far end; it's one of those clever mezzanine setups, all snug under the rafters with fluffy bedding that screams "sleep like a log." Outside, the private hot tub was steaming invitingly under a canopy of stars—my first dip that evening was heavenly, bubbles fizzing away the drive's stress while owls hooted in the distance. Who needs a spa when you've got this? First impressions? It's the kind of place that makes you exhale properly for the first time in months. That mishap en route only amplified the joy—nothing like a bit of chaos to make paradise hit harder. I wandered the garden patch at dusk, spotting rabbits (obviously) darting about, and nipped over to the nearby Somerset Space Walk trail start, just a stroll away. It's this brilliant outdoor exhibit hugging the River Parrett, with planet models scaled to Earth's distance from the sun—Mercury's a pebble by the bridge, perfect for a mooch as the light faded. Back at the lodge, I rustled up fish and chips from the local takeaway in Westonzoyland (crispy batter, mushy peas perfection), scoffing them by the fire with a cheeky local cider. Sitting there, pint in hand, I had one of those gentle moments of reflection. Life back home's been a whirlwind—work deadlines, endless emails—but here, in this wee haven, it all felt miles away. Rabbit's Warren Lodge isn't just a stay; it's a reset button, wrapped in Somerset's gentle hills and that unbeatable rural hush. If you're after first-night bliss after a bumpy arrival, this is it. Can't wait to see what days two and three bring, but honestly, that initial wow has me hooked already. |
