About Porthleven
Spotting the 4 Person Signature Lodge was a doddle; it's one of those smart, modern lodges tucked into a peaceful spot just a short stroll from the village centre, overlooking the gentle roll of the Lizard Peninsula. I parked up on the gravel drive, gravel crunching under my tyres like a welcoming handshake, and hauled my gear to the door. Fumbling the key code with muddy fingers – classic me – I stepped inside, and blimey, it was love at first sight. The open-plan living space hit me like a warm hug: plush sofas in soft greys, a wood-burning stove begging for a cheeky fire later, and floor-to-ceiling windows framing the sea view. I dropped my bags and just stood there, grinning like an idiot, the faint tang of salt air sneaking in through a cracked window. First impressions? Spot on luxurious without being poncy. The kitchen was a dream – shiny granite worktops, a massive American-style fridge that could swallow a week's shopping, and all the gadgets you need for a proper fry-up. I cracked open a bottle of local ale from the offy down the road (Porthleven's got a cracking little one called RNLI Shop, perfect for emergency pasties), and wandered out to the private decking. Table and chairs set for al fresco dining, with that unbeatable view across the harbour where fishing boats bobbed like contented ducks. The sun peeked out just then, turning the water gold, and I thought, "This is it, innit? Three days of this." Popped down to the harbour for a nose around – it's only a five-minute wander, past cute fishermen's cottages and the hum of the village. Grabbed fish and chips from the Kota, wrapped in paper thick as cardboard, and ate them on a bench watching surfers tackle the waves at the beach. Porthleven's got this proper vibe: working harbour with lobster pots stacked high, the sand gritty underfoot, and that fresh sea breeze that clears your head. Back at the lodge, I fired up the Smart TV (streaming sorted, Netflix at the ready), and sank into the king-size bed in the master bedroom – crisp white sheets, fluffy pillows, and more sea views. The second bedroom's no slouch either, twin beds for mates or kids, all cosy and quiet. Sitting there that first evening, cuppa in hand, I had a proper moment of self-reflection. Life back home's been a whirl of deadlines and doom-scrolling; here, in this cracking little lodge, everything slowed down. The arrival kerfuffle – mud, wrong turns, leaking cool box – felt like a comedy sketch now, the perfect foil to this serene spot. Porthleven wrapped around it like a mate's arm, all harbour buzz and beach walks without the crowds. I toasted the view with my ale: here's to first impressions that stick, and a weekend already feeling legendary. Can't wait to wake up to that sunrise tomorrow. |
