About Dorset
First impressions? Blimey, what a cracker. Superior 3 is one of those superior pet-friendly lodges tucked into a peaceful spot just outside Dorchester, with decking that overlooks a lush garden begging for a deckchair. I stepped inside, dropped my bags, and was hit by that instant "ahh" of cosiness – think plush sofas, a wood-burner ready for a lazy evening crackle (even if it was July), and a kitchen kitted out with everything you'd need for scoffing toast without lifting a finger. Sleeps six, it says, but for my solo three-day jaunt, it felt like a private hug from the countryside. Day one was all about settling in and doing bugger all, which was the whole point. I cracked open a book – some dog-eared P.G. Wodehouse for the giggles – and sprawled on the decking with a cuppa. The garden's a riot of wildflowers and buzzing bees, with views stretching to the gentle Dorset hills. No itinerary, no alarms; just the joy of watching clouds amble by. Lunch was a cheeky pasty from the local shop in Dorchester (a five-minute drive, if that), eaten picnic-style on the grass. I chuckled to myself imagining my mates back home grafting away while I was out here perfecting the art of idleness. Come afternoon, I fancied a mooch – nothing strenuous, mind. A slow wander down the lane led me to a nearby footpath winding through fields dotted with chalky sheep. Dorset's got that timeless vibe, doesn't it? Butter-yellow stone walls, hedgerows heavy with blackberries (too early for picking, gutted), and not a soul in sight. I pottered back as the light softened, brewed a pot of tea, and sank into the lounge with my novel. The lodge's quiet hum – birdsong filtering through the open windows, faint church bells from Dorchester – wrapped around me like a cosy blanket. It's funny how, after years of charging about, you realise slowing down is the real luxury. Evening brought a spot of self-reflection over that cider on the decking. Sat there as dusk fell, feet up, thinking about how life's too short for constant hustle. This place, Superior 3, nailed it – no distractions, just space to breathe and be. I lit a candle (they've got those thoughtful touches), flicked on some Radio 4, and let the day melt away. Dinner? A simple fry-up from the fridge basics, savoured without a care. Day two mirrored the first, only lazier. More reading in the garden, a gentle cycle along the quiet roads towards the Frome Valley (pure bliss on two wheels, wind in your hair), and an afternoon nap that stretched gloriously long. Popped into Dorchester for provisions – cheese from the market, fresh bread – but mostly, it was about savouring the stillness. The decking became my throne; the garden my kingdom. Light humour in spotting a cheeky robin nicking crumbs, and that quiet joy of achieving precisely nowt. By day three checkout, I was hooked. Superior 3 isn't about grand adventures; it's the sheer delight of buggering off the treadmill for lazy, lovely days in a cracking Dorset lodge. If you're after proper downtime, book it – you won't regret a thing. |
