About Dorset
Stumbling out with my weekend bag, I fumbled the keys from the secure box—naturally, they stuck at first, because why not add to the chaos? But as the door swung open, blimey, it was like stepping into a hug from an old mate. The place is this charming little gem tucked away in a quiet spot, yet dead central for nipping into town. First impressions? Proper lush. The living room hit me straight away—low-beamed ceiling that makes you feel snug rather than squished, a wood-burning stove begging for a fire (though it was a mild evening, I was tempted), and those big squishy sofas in muted greens and creams that screamed "put your feet up, love." I dumped my bag and just stood there, grinning like an idiot, the arrival farce already fading. Wandering through, the kitchen was a dream for a lazy holidaymaker like me—shiny granite worktops, a proper Aga vibe without the faff, and a retro toaster that looked like it'd seen a few Full English breakfasts. I rustled up a cuppa straight off, using the fancy local tea they'd left out, and gazed out the window at the teeny garden. It's not massive, but it's private, with a picnic bench and flower pots bursting with lavender—proper Dorset summer scents wafting in. Upstairs, the bedrooms were cracking: the master with its king-size bed piled high with fluffy pillows, crisp white sheets, and a window overlooking a quiet lane. The en-suite? Spotless, with a rainfall shower that I tested immediately (hot water on tap, no messing). The twin room next door felt airy and inviting, perfect if I'd brought the nippers, though it was just me this time. That first evening, as the sun dipped low over the rooftops, I flopped on the sofa with a cheeky glass of Dorset cider from the offie down the road. The chaos of the drive melted away; this place has that magic, doesn't it? Makes you reflect a bit—here I am, mid-forties, still getting daft with directions, but finding these little havens reminds me why I bother with these getaways. No grand plans needed; just pottering into Dorchester for a pint at the King's Arms or a mooch round the Roman Town House ruins, all within a five-minute stroll. Coach House isn't flashy—it's real, comfy, and feels like home from the off. First impressions sealed it: three days here were going to be bliss, mud and all. Can't wait to go back and do it properly next time. |
