About Cornwall
Pulling up to Perran around teatime on day one, I was smitten straight away. It's one of those proper cosy spots – a wooden lodge vibe, all warm and welcoming, nestled in a quiet holiday park just outside Redruth. The kind of place where the world feels a million miles from the daily grind. I parked up, hauled my bag inside, and proper exhaled. First impressions? Heaven. The open-plan living space hit me with its squishy sofas, a wood burner begging for a lazy evening log (though it was balmy enough to skip it), and a kitchenette stocked with all the essentials – kettle on, builders' brew in hand, job done. I flopped onto the decking with a cuppa, gazing out at the garden. It's not massive, but oh, it's perfect: lush green patches, a few pots bursting with wildflowers, and those classic Cornish palms swaying in the breeze. Birds chirping, distant sound of waves – or was that my imagination? Either way, it screamed "slow down, you daft sod." That's the joy of it, isn't it? No grand plans, just the sheer delight of doing bugger all. I cracked open my book – some dog-eared Poldark novel for old times' sake – and let the afternoon melt away. Sat there for hours, really, feet up, watching clouds do their thing. Light humour in the realisation that my phone stayed in my bag the whole time; signal was patchy anyway, which felt like the universe winking at me. Day two dawned lazy as you like, mist rolling in from the nearby coast. No alarm, just birdsong nudging me awake around nine. Breakfast was a faff-free affair: toast, marmalade pinched from the welcome pack, and strong coffee on the patio. The garden called again – I wandered out in slippers, plonked myself on a lounger with more reading. That self-reflective moment crept in then, quiet-like: staring at the dew-kissed grass, I thought about how I'd spent years chasing deadlines, always "on." Here at Perran, with nothing but time stretching out, I felt a gentle pang – why don't I let myself breathe more often? It's daft, but proper profound, that simple act of lingering over a page, no rush to the next thing. Leisurely local potter later, I ambled a short stroll to the park's edges – within spitting distance, mind – spotting fuzzy ponies in the fields and that salty sea air teasing from St Uny or wherever the beach hides nearby. Popped into a little farm shop en route for pasties (proper ones, flaky and steaming), which I devoured back at the lodge, crumbs everywhere, no cares given. Afternoon blurred into napping, more garden lounging, maybe a cheeky GandT as the sun dipped. Evening? Curled up with the telly flickering some rubbish quiz show, utterly content. By day three's arrival vibes still lingering – wait, no, it's all first impressions, that initial glow carrying through – I'd nailed the art of sweet sod all. Perran isn't about ticking boxes; it's the antidote to frenzy. Cosy nooks, garden whispers, and the permission to just be. If you're after slowing down proper, this is your spot – mishap or no. |
