About Cornwall
I finally made it to Exclusive 2 Bed in Fowey after what felt like the scenic route from hell – or at least from the M5. We'd piled into the car that Friday morning, me, the missus, and our two lads, aged eight and ten, buzzing with that pre-holiday excitement that turns them into human pinballs. Cornwall's calling, I thought, dreaming of pasty shops and sea views. But no, halfway down a twisty B-road near St Austell, I managed to clip a rogue pothole with the nearside wheel. Thump! The hubcap pinged off like a frisbee into the hedge. "Dad, you've lost a wheel!" shrieked the youngest, while I pulled over, cursing under my breath. Ten minutes of bramble-bashing later, I retrieved the mangled thing, hubcap in hand like a trophy from a comedy quest. Classic me – turning a three-hour drive into a four-hour farce. Still, it broke the ice, and we laughed it off with emergency pasties from a layby van.

Pulling up to Exclusive 2 Bed just before teatime was pure relief. Tucked in a quiet spot overlooking the Fowey estuary, this little two-bed gem is the sort of place that screams "relaxed family escape" without trying too hard. We parked right outside – no faffing with narrow lanes or shared drives – and there it was: a cosy lodge-style cottage with those big windows framing the sparkling water and bobbing boats. The estate's got that perfect Cornwall vibe, manicured lawns rolling down to the estuary path, with Fowey town just a gentle stroll away. No cars needed once you're in; it's all about pottering on foot, which suits our lodge life chaos down to the ground.

Stepping inside for the first impressions? Blimey, it hit the spot. The open-plan living area is light and airy, with plush sofas begging for a collapse after the drive. That wood-burning stove (unlit, but promising evenings ahead) and the telly mounted just right for footie or kids' cartoons. Kitchen's a dream for lazy cooks like me – granite tops, a proper farmhouse table big enough for our board games, and all the gadgets you'd need without feeling like a show home. I cracked open the complimentary cream tea pack (scones, clotted cream, jam – Cornwall, you legend) while the boys raided the welcome biscuits. "This is better than home!" declared the eldest, already eyeing the quirky nook with its stack of local guidebooks.

Upstairs, the two bedrooms are snug as a bug. Our king-size master overlooks the estuary – woke up to gulls crying and sunlight dancing on the water, proper postcard stuff. The twin room for the lads has that bunk-bed bonus they love, though I spotted the inevitable sock-strewn floor starting already. Both en-suites are spotless, with fluffy towels and those power showers that rinse off the road dust in seconds. Outside, the private patio with its table, chairs, and BBQ setup sealed the deal. We fired up the latter that first evening with local sausages from Fowey's butchers (a quick five-minute wander into town), munching as the sun dipped behind the hills, painting the water gold.

First impressions? It's the antidote to everyday grind. Amid the lodge life chaos – spilled juice on the sofa, boys charging about like feral otters – it's those simple pleasures that shine: estuary breezes through the windows, the hum of Fowey life just beyond, no rush, no schedules. Made me pause that first night, pint in hand on the patio, reflecting on how we rarely switch off properly. Here, with the kids' laughter echoing and Cornwall whispering "slow down," it felt like we'd stumbled into our own little slice of bliss. Can't wait to see what the next days bring, but arriving? Spot on.
