I finally made it to Cutch, that charming little lodge tucked away in Looe, after a drive from Plymouth that was equal parts scenic and sodding infuriating. Picture this: me, the wife, our two lads (ages 10 and 7), and a boot crammed with enough pasty supplies to feed a rugby team, trundling down the A38. Cornwall's doing its usual magic – rolling hills giving way to that salty sea air – but then, bam, the insignificant mishap of the day. I'd packed the wrong SatNav cable, so we're faffing about with Google Maps on my phone, which decides to route us through every narrow Cornish lane known to man. "Turn left in 200 yards!" it chirps, as we squeeze past a tractor that looks like it's auditioning for a horror film.
