About Kent
I finally made it to 4 Country View Park in Kent after what felt like the world's most faffing-about drive from London. It was meant to be a straightforward hour-and-a-bit jaunt down the M20, but no, I managed to cock it up spectacularly by missing the turn for the A2 and ending up in some godforsaken roundabout hell near Sittingbourne. Picture this: me, swearing at the satnav like it was personally responsible for Brexit, while my passenger (aka my long-suffering mate Dave) munches on a Greggs pasty and laughs his socks off. We were late, flustered, and I'd spilt half my Costa latte down my shirt – a proper amateur hour. By the time we rolled into Faversham, I was half-convinced the holiday was cursed before it even started.

Pulling up to the park, though, all that chaos melted away like butter on a hot crumpet. 4 Country View Park is tucked away in this idyllic little spot just outside Faversham, surrounded by rolling Kentish fields that stretch out like a Constable painting come to life. The cottage itself – ours was one of those cosy two-bedroom numbers with a cheeky patio – sat there welcoming us with its whitewashed walls and thatched roof vibe, dead typical of these Swale District gems. I parked the car wonkily on the gravel drive, still sticky from the latte fiasco, and we tumbled out into the fresh air. Blimey, the smell hit first: that earthy mix of cut grass, wildflowers, and a hint of the nearby hop fields. Kent does countryside proper, doesn't it?

Stepping inside was pure magic. The living room opened up with big windows framing views of sheep-dotted pastures – I swear one ewe gave me a knowing stare, as if saying, "Welcome to the madhouse, mate." The place was spotless, all plush sofas, a wood-burning stove begging for a cheeky fire later, and a kitchen kitted out with everything from a proper Aga-style cooker to posh tea towels with sheep prints. Dave immediately raided the welcome hamper – local Faversham ale, artisan bread from the nearby market town bakery, and some fudge that was dangerously moreish. We cracked open a couple of those beers right there on the patio, feet up on the wooden benches, watching the sun dip low over the orchards. It's moments like that when you realise how knackered city life leaves you; I caught myself staring at a buzzard circling overhead, thinking, "When did I last just... breathe?"

First impressions? Overwhelmingly brilliant, mishap notwithstanding. We wandered the park's grounds that evening – it's a proper haven of holiday lets dotted among lawns perfect for kids or dogs (we didn't have either, sadly). There's a communal play area nearby with swings creaking gently in the breeze, and paths leading to quiet spots where you can hear nothing but birdsong and the odd tractor chugging in the distance. No thumping traffic, no sirens – just Kent's gentle hum. Dave joked that my driving blunder was the best thing that happened, forcing us to stop at a Faversham farm shop en route for cheeses and pork pies that we demolished for supper. Sat there under the fairy lights strung on the patio, plates balanced on knees, I had one of those quiet self-reflective pats on the back: life's too short for perfect plans; sometimes the spills and detours lead you to places like this, where the world slows right down.

By bedtime, with the windows flung open to the cool night air and stars popping out like someone flicked a switch, I was already plotting day two. But honestly, that arrival – chaotic as it was – sealed it. 4 Country View Park isn't just a stay; it's an instant reset button for the soul. If you're fancying a Kent escape, get yourself here. You won't regret it, even if your satnav does.
