About Kent
I finally made it to Seasalter after a bit of a faff on the M2 – nothing major, just me spilling half my builder's tea across the dashboard when I hit a rogue pothole near Faversham. Classic me, innit? It was late spring, that tentative time of year when Kent's coast starts shaking off its winter cobwebs, and the air has that fresh, salty nip that promises better days ahead. I'd booked the 2 Bed Lodge in Seasalter for a quick three-day getaway, craving a bit of seaside downtime without the full-on summer crowds.

Pulling up to the lodge just as the sun dipped low, casting a golden haze over the marshes, I was chuffed to bits. It's one of those proper cosy spots tucked into Seasalter's quiet caravan park vibe, right by the pebble beach. Late spring here means the sea's still got that bracing edge – proper invigorating, not quite swimming weather, but perfect for a windy wander. The lodge itself is a snug wooden number, all pitched roof and decking that overlooks the flats towards Whitstable. First impressions? Spot on for the season. No blaring heat to make you sweat, just a gentle breeze rustling the new buds on the nearby sea buckthorn bushes, their orange berries still clinging on from autumn like stubborn reminders of shorter days.

Stepping inside, the place wrapped around me like a warm hug after that chilly drive. Two bedrooms done out simply but sweetly – crisp white duvets, a cheeky nautical throw on the sofa, and a kitchenette stocked with all the essentials for knocking up a fry-up. I dumped my bags and cracked open the bifold doors to the deck, where the late afternoon light was painting everything in soft pastels. Spring's magic in Kent is how everything feels alive but not overwhelming; the garden area's dotted with early primroses pushing through, and you can hear the oystercatchers piping away on the shore. I plonked myself down with a cuppa, watching the tide creep in over the pebbles – no mad lapping waves like high summer, more of a lazy slosh that matches the mellow mood.

That first evening stroll along Seasalter's beach was pure gold, shaped entirely by the season's whims. The wind had a playful bite, whipping up little white horses on the water, but it carried the scent of wild garlic from the nearby lanes – that pungent, green whiff that's everywhere in Kent come May. I crunched over the shingle, dodging the odd jellyfish washed up from winter storms, chuckling to myself about how I'd packed flip-flops instead of proper trainers. Light humour in the air, much like the skylarks trilling overhead, their songs a cheeky soundtrack to my solo shuffle. Whitstable's just a hop down the coast path, its oyster sheds glowing in the fading light, but I kept it local, breathing in the solitude that spring affords before the families descend.

As the sky bruised into purples and the chill deepened – proper reminder that summer's not quite here – I headed back for a simple supper of local crab from Seasalter's own stalls, picked up en route. Sat on the deck under a blanket, fairy lights twinkling on, it hit me gently: these quiet first impressions, unpolished by peak-season bustle, are what I needed. Work's been manic, life's a whirl, and here in late spring's embrace, with the marshes whispering and the sea murmuring promises, I felt properly reset. No grand adventures planned yet, just this – arrival's gift, perfectly tuned to the turning year. Can't wait to see what the next days bring.
