About Isle Of Wight
I finally made it to Forbes C1 near Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight after what felt like the most faff-filled journey ever. Picture this: I'd caught the ferry from Lymington bright and early, buzzing with excitement for my three-day getaway in this cosy cottage I'd booked on a whim. The crossing was smooth enough, waves lapping gently as we chugged across the Solent, but then disaster struck on the other side. I'd packed light – or so I thought – but as I wrestled my overstuffed rucksack off the car deck at Yarmouth's little ferry terminal, the zip gave way. Out tumbled my entire supply of crisps, a half-eaten pack of Hobnobs, and worst of all, my favourite paperback, now smeared with cheese and onion dust. I stood there, red-faced, scooping it all up while a couple of locals on bikes chuckled and offered a cheery "Alright there, mate?" Classic me, turning a simple arrival into a comedy sketch.

Still, with my dignity in tatters and crisps in my pockets, I hopped into my rental car for the short hop to Forbes C1. It's just a stone's throw from Yarmouth's harbour, tucked away in that peaceful spot where the River Yar meets the sea. As I trundled down the narrow lanes – past those quintessential thatched cottages and the odd sheep eyeing me suspiciously – the stress melted away. The sat-nav chirped that I was nearly there, and suddenly, there it was: this charming stone-built cottage, all low beams and flower baskets, looking like it'd been plucked from a postcard of old England.

Pulling up, I was gobsmacked by the first impressions. The front garden was a riot of colour – lavender and roses nodding in the breeze – and that sea view from the lounge window? Pure magic. You could see the gentle swell of the Solent right there, with fishing boats bobbing about like they'd been at happy hour. I fumbled the key under the flowerpot (as instructed) and stepped inside, the door creaking open to reveal a proper homely haven. The open-plan living area hit me first: squishy sofas piled with cushions, a wood burner begging for a cosy evening (though it was a balmy day), and a kitchen that screamed "whip up a cuppa and relax." I dumped my bags and brewed a proper builder's tea, sipping it by the window as the sun danced on the water. It was one of those moments where you think, "Blimey, why don't I do this more often?"

Wandering around, every nook had character. Upstairs, the bedrooms were snug as a bug, with crisp white linens and those little touches like fluffy towels folded just so. My en-suite was tiny but spotless, perfect for a quick rinse after the ferry chaos. I couldn't resist popping out to the patio – a suntrap with a table and chairs, ideal for al fresco brekkie. From there, Yarmouth's quay was practically in sight, all Georgian houses and the hum of the harbour. I even spotted the odd seal poking its head up, which had me grinning like a kid.

Of course, the mishap with my crisps lingered in my mind, a gentle nudge during that first quiet moment on the sofa. Sat there, feet up, gazing at the view, I had a proper reflect: life's full of little cock-ups, innit? That spilled bag was nothing compared to this – a cracking cottage in one of the Isle of Wight's best-kept secrets. Forbes C1 wasn't just a holiday let; it felt like a mate's place, welcoming you with open arms despite your daft arrival. As the afternoon light softened over the Yar estuary, I knew the next few days were going to be spot on. What a way to kick off a break.
