About Isle Of Wight
Pulling up that first afternoon, the lodge hit us like a warm hug. Nestled in a quiet glade-like spot amid whispering woods, its modern wooden cladding gleamed under the weak Island sun, with a sprawling deck begging for evening gins. We unloaded the boot—kids dashing about like feral puppies—and stepped inside to vaulted ceilings, plush sofas, and a kitchen that screamed "cook something daft tonight." The three bedrooms were a dream: two doubles with ensuites that felt like mini-spas, and a cheeky bunk room for the little ones. First impressions? Pure luxury without the pretension. I flopped on the deck chair, mug of builder's in hand, thinking, "This is the spot to switch off." But the real magic kicked in when we decided to embrace the Island's wonky lanes, no maps, just vibes. That's the joy of the Isle of Wight—you can't help but stumble on hidden gems by accident, especially from a base like this lodge, mere minutes from Newport's fringes. We hopped in the car for a "quick explore" and promptly got lost down a no-through-road that spat us out at a blink-and-miss-it coastal path near the Medina estuary. No crowds, just us and a gnarled oak overlooking mudflats alive with waders—oyster catchers piping like cheeky referees. We picnicked on pasties from a Newport bakery I'd spied en route, feet dangling over the edge, waves lapping below. "Who needs Sandown Beach when you've got this?" I chuckled, as a seal popped up, eyeballing our crumbs. Next morning, bleary from too much red wine on the deck (that hot tub view over the treetops is criminal), we veered off down unmarked tracks behind the lodge. Ended up at a forgotten orchard nook, apples dangling like Christmas baubles, with a crumbling stone bench perfect for coffee. The kids went wild picking windfalls, turning it into an impromptu jam session—sticky fingers and all. It was one of those moments that sneaks up on you: me sitting there, juice-stained toddler on knee, reflecting on how life's best bits aren't the Instagram spots, but these accidental detours where you breathe proper. Gets you pondering, doesn't it? In the rush of mainland life, we forget to wander without a plan. Afternoon took us deeper into the "lost" rabbit holes—stumbling on a wildflower meadow tucked off Dodnor Creek, alive with butterflies and the hum of lazy bees. No signs, no tourists, just a carpet of colour that made the missus gasp and snap a million pics. We sprawled out, munching cheese ploughman's from the lodge's stocked fridge, the sea's salty tang on the breeze. Light-hearted giggles ensued when I tripped over a rabbit hole, landing arse-over-tit in the grass—classic me, turning paradise into a pratfall. But honestly, that deck back at the lodge felt even sweeter returning to, fairy lights twinkling as dusk fell, sharing tales of our off-piste finds. By evening two, we'd mapped our own secret Isle: a pebbled cove hidden by dunes a short wander from the lodge's back gate, where we skimmed stones till our arms ached, and a twilight wood-walk revealing glow-worms like tiny fairy discos. No grand plans, just the thrill of getting properly lost and unearthing the Island's quiet soul. First impressions of the Deluxe 3 Bedroom Lodge? It's the ultimate launchpad for that magic—cosy, kitted-out haven that whispers, "Go explore, then come home knackered and content." If you're after three days of serendipitous bliss on the Wight, this is your bolt-hole. Can't recommend it enough. |
