About Isle Of Wight
By the time we arrived at the lodge, proper frazzled and half an hour late for check-in, I was ready to chuck it all in and sleep in the car. But blimey, what a turnaround. Pulling up to this gem of a place in quiet St. Helens, tucked away in a peaceful spot just a stone's throw from the beach, it was love at first sight. The lodge is this cosy wooden haven, all mod cons wrapped in that classic Island charm – think wraparound decking begging for a GandT at sunset, and those big windows framing the Solent like a postcard. We stumbled through the door, keys in hand from the handy key safe, and it was like stepping into a hug. Spotless open-plan living area with a squishy sofa that screamed "lounge here forever," a kitchen kitted out better than mine at home (hello, shiny hob and that massive fridge-freezer), and two bedrooms that were pure bliss – ours with a king-size bed piled high with fluffy pillows, the other a comfy double. En-suite bathrooms too, with power showers that blasted away the ferry grime in seconds. First impressions? Absolute winner. We dumped our bags and cracked open a couple of cold ones from the off-licence in St. Helens village, just a five-minute wander away. Sat out on the deck, feet up, watching boats bob on the water – it's that close to the shore you can hear the gentle lap of waves. Dave reckons it's the best spot he's seen, and he's a fussy sod. The whole vibe is spot-on for unwinding: private garden with outdoor furniture, BBQ ready for a sizzle, and parking right outside so no more tractor dramas. I had a proper moment there, sipping my lager as the sun dipped low, thinking about how I never switch off at home – work emails pinging away like nobody's business. Here, in this little lodge, it was like permission to just *be*. No signal stress, just sea air and mate-time. That arrival chaos? Forgotten already. If you're after a base that's dead central for St. Helens' pubs and the sandy stretch at Colwell Bay nearby, this is it – pure magic from the off. Can't wait to go back. |
