About Lake District
Pulling into the drive of Hodge Luxury Pod around lunchtime, I was gobsmacked. Tucked just outside Keswick, this isn’t your bog-standard holiday let – it’s a sleek, modern pod that punches way above its weight in luxury, nestled amid woods that were at their autumnal peak. The leaves carpeted the ground in crunchy layers of bronze and gold, and every gust rustled them like nature’s own applause. From the off, the seasonal vibe hit me square: that mellow October light filtering through the canopy, casting everything in a soft, hazy glow that made the pod look like it had been conjured from a Beatrix Potter tale, but with all the bells and whistles of 21st-century indulgence. I unloaded in minutes – bless the thoughtful outdoor storage nook – and stepped inside, hit by a wave of warmth from the underfloor heating. October’s sneaky chills had been creeping in during the drive, but here it was toasty paradise. First impressions? Bloody brilliant. The open-plan space is compact but clever, with a massive picture window framing the woods and a glimpse of the fells beyond – Skiddaw’s shoulders dusted with the first hints of frost under that brooding sky. I brewed a cuppa straight away (of course), sinking into the plush sofa as rain began pattering the glass – typical Lakes weather, turning drizzly just to remind you who’s boss. It shaped everything: the pod’s hot tub, steaming invitingly on the private deck, became my instant hero. Slipping in as dusk fell around 5pm, the leaves swirling in the wind like confetti, I watched the world fade to twilight purple. Pure bliss, with bubbles chasing away the day’s drive-weary kinks. Dinner was a lazy affair – local Keswick sausages from the nearby farm shop (stocked up en route), sizzling in the swish kitchen while I fiddled with the smart TV, streaming a crackling fire soundtrack to amp up the hygge. Wandering the immediate grounds that first afternoon sealed it. Paths crunching underfoot through the autumn foliage led to a wee seating area perfect for pondering life’s little things. Sat there with a biscuit, mug steaming, I had one of those gentle moments of self-reflection: rushing about city life feels daft when you can just breathe in this crisp, leaf-scented air and let the season slow you down. No signal stress here – just the rustle of squirrels and the odd crow cawing overhead. Back inside, the king-size bed called, piled high with goose-down pillows, ready for an early night as nights draw in sharp. By evening, as stars poked through clearing skies – October’s clarity is unmatched – I felt utterly at home. Hodge Luxury Pod isn’t just a stay; in autumn, it’s a love letter to the Lakes, wrapping you in seasonal comfort amid nature’s grand, colourful show. First impressions don’t get much better. |
