About Derbyshire
Spotting the lodge nestled among the trees, though, all that arrival chaos melted away. It's this proper little log cabin gem, just a stone's throw from Buxton's Pavilion Gardens, tucked away enough to feel like your own secret hideout but close enough to wander into town for a pint. I parked up, grabbed my bags, and fumbled the key code with shaky hands—post-mishap adrenaline still pumping. The door swung open to this warm, welcoming hug of a space. First impressions? Bloody brilliant. The open-plan living area hit me like a cosy dream: plush sofa begging to be sunk into, a wood-burning stove (unlit but screaming potential for later), and a kitchenette kitted out with everything you'd need for a lazy fry-up. I dumped my stuff and just stood there, grinning like an idiot at the beamed ceiling and those big windows framing the rolling Derbyshire hills. Stepping outside for a proper gander, I was gobsmacked by the private hot tub bubbling away on the deck—my god, what a treat after that drive. The air was crisp, laced with that fresh Peak District pine scent, and within seconds I had my boots on, pottering around the garden. It's all fenced off, private as you like, with views that stretch out to the dales without a soul in sight. I spotted a couple of cheeky robins hopping about, and for a moment, I chuckled at myself—here I was, city lad turned accidental countryside explorer, mirror-scratched car and all, feeling like I'd stumbled into a chocolate box lid. Wandering just a few minutes down the path, I hit Poole's Cavern, that massive underground wonder right on Buxton's doorstep. Popped in for a quick self-guided peek—stalactites dripping like nature's chandeliers, cool echoes bouncing off the walls—and it was the perfect palate cleanser for my muddled arrival. Back at the lodge, I cracked open a beer from the offie in town, fired up the BBQ (surprisingly easy, even for a novice like me), and watched the sun dip behind the peaks. The one-bedroom setup is spot-on for a solo jaunt or cosy couple's getaway: snug double bed piled high with quilts upstairs, en-suite with a rainfall shower that rinsed off the hedge debris in seconds. I lay there that first night, listening to the quiet—none of that urban hum, just owls and wind in the trees—reflecting gently on how a daft little driving blip had made this place feel even more like a sanctuary. Sometimes, you need a bit of chaos to appreciate the calm, don't you? By bedtime, with the hot tub calling for tomorrow's soak, my first impressions were sealed: this Buxton lodge is pure Peak District magic, mishaps and all. If you're after a proper unwind within easy reach of Buxton's thermal spa vibes and cavern trails, it's an absolute belter. Can't wait to see what days two and three bring. |
