About Suffolk
Pulling up to Sunset VIP just outside Woodbridge, though, all that stress melted away like ice cream on a hot Aldeburgh pier. Tucked into a quiet spot near the River Deben, this place is the epitome of that cosy Suffolk cottage vibe – think low-beamed ceilings, a cheeky hot tub peeking from the garden, and views that make you forget you're only a stone's throw from civilisation. I parked on the gravel drive, gravel crunching under my tyres like a satisfying ASMR video, and there it was: the front door ajar, fairy lights already twinkling in the dusk, and a faint smell of woodsmoke wafting from the chiminea. The hosts had left a welcome basket on the kitchen island – local Woodbridge gin, artisan crisps from the Suffolk Smokehouse, and fresh scones that were still warm. I cracked open the gin immediately, toasting my survival from the sheep apocalypse. First impressions? Blimey, it's lush. Stepping inside, the open-plan living space hit me like a warm hug – plush sofas begging for a collapse, a telly bigger than my flat's, and those massive windows framing the sunset over the Deben estuary. I mean, "Sunset VIP" isn't kidding; as the sun dipped, the sky turned this mad pinky-orange, painting the garden in gold. I wandered out to the patio, kicking off my shoes, and dipped a toe in the hot tub – bubbling away invitingly, surrounded by lavender beds that Suffolk does so well. No noisy neighbours, just the gentle lap of the river and the odd curlew call. It's the sort of spot that makes you breathe deeper, you know? Hunger kicked in after the drive, so I rustled up supper from the basket – slathered those scones with clotted cream and jam, paired with a cheeky cheese board they'd snuck in (hello, Suffolk Blue). Sat there munching, feet up, watching bats flit about in the twilight. Light humour in the air, too – spotted a sign in the loo saying "If you break it, you buy it... or just blame the dog." No dog in sight, but it made me chuckle, thinking of my own daft spaniel back home who'd have chaos-ed this place up proper. That first evening prompted a bit of gentle reflection as I sipped my gin under the stars. Amid the arrival kerfuffle, I'd been frazzled, scrolling emails like a city zombie. But here, with the hot tub calling and Suffolk's quiet magic unfolding, I realised how knackered I'd been. Three days ahead felt like a gift – no agenda, just this perfect bolthole. Sunset VIP isn't just a stay; it's that rare first-impression knockout that whispers, "Stay a while, love." Can't wait to explore the Deben paths tomorrow, but honestly, this arrival chaos birthed the best unwind ever. |
