About Norfolk
Pulling up to the Premier lodge felt like stumbling into a hug from an old mate. The place is one of those luxury lodges in a small, peaceful park – think spacious wooden haven with a private hot tub bubbling away on the deck like it was waiting just for me. I stepped inside, dropped my bags, and proper exhaled. After kicking off my shoes in the hallway (muddy from that unexpected detour), the first thing that hit me was the sheer comfort. Plump sofas in the open-plan living area, a kitchen gleaming with all mod cons – I immediately filled the kettle for a proper builder's brew. No rush, no plans. That's the joy of it, innit? I'd come here to do bugger all, and from the off, it was delivering in spades. First impressions? Blissfully lazy. I flopped onto the sofa with a cuppa and my latest paperback – some dog-eared crime thriller I'd been saving. The windows framed the garden perfectly: lush green lawn stretching out to a hedge that probably buzzes with birds come dawn. I spent that first afternoon just... being. Reading a chapter, then staring out at the sky, watching clouds drift like they had nowhere better to be. The sun dipped low, turning everything that soft Norfolk gold, and I nipped out to the deck with a GandT. The hot tub was calling, but I resisted – too soon to get pruney. Instead, I pottered in the garden, plonking myself on a lounger with crisps and more reading. It's daft how satisfying doing nothing can be when the setting's this spot-on. Come evening, I rustled up a simple supper – local sausages from a farm shop I'd spotted en route, fried up with spuds and a knob of butter. Ate it on the sofa, telly murmuring in the background (some rubbish quiz show that had me shouting answers at the screen). No faffing about with restaurants or sights; this was about slowing right down. The lodge wrapped around me like a cosy blanket – woodburner ready to light if the chill set in, underfloor heating keeping toes toasty. I reflected then, glass in hand, on how knackered I'd been before arriving. Work had been manic, life a blur of to-do lists. Here, in this unassuming Norfolk gem, I felt the tension uncoil. Gentle reminder: sometimes the best holiday is the one where you let the world spin without you. Next morning – still day one, really, since I'd arrived late – dawned misty and magical. I ambled out for a slow explore of the immediate park paths, waving at a neighbour walking their spaniel. No farther than a gentle loop around the lodges and gardens; that's all I needed. Back for coffee on the patio, more pages turned, birdsong soundtrack. The odd light shower pattered down, but it just made everything feel more alive, more English. I chuckled to myself imagining mates back home grafting away while I lounged like a lord. Sandringham Premier nailed that first-hit wonder – a proper antidote to rush. If you're after three days of sweet sod-all in Norfolk's embrace, this is your spot. Utterly restorative. |
