I finally made it to that cosy 1 Bed Lodge in Beeston after a bit of a faff on the drive down from Norwich. We cracked open the sliding doors to the deck, where a couple of loungers overlooked a shared hot tub bubbling away invitingly – though with the kids cannonballing in later, it was more splash zone than spa. The sun was out, Norfolk-style (you know, patchy but optimistic), and we rustled up cheese toasties in the kitchen, spilling crumbs everywhere while chatting about the day ahead. It's funny how a place like this strips everything back – no grand hotel lobby, just us, a kettle on the go, and birdsong filtering through the trees.
